It is often a puzzle for most children to learn to read. It is estimated that about 20 % of the Americans who experience barriers to turn the letters on a page into sounds. The recent research in brain image-formation helps to determine the positions where such generation and transformation are done. This is actually a very significant result. It has disclosed the neural basis why some quite clever people may experience difficulty in reading. But it is the second finding of this research that accounts for the common concern. That is the difference between the man and woman with their reading barrier.

传统的观点和有关的数据都认为比起那些未受过高等教育的人来说，教育能帮助人们挣到更多的钱，并成为更好的、更负责的公民。但教育并非对每人都有如此神力。一些年轻人由于没有确定的动力而中断学业。有些观察者把这归因于年轻人自己，别的观察者则把这归因于外界。尽管调查和数据都表明受过大学教育的人比未受过大学教育的人更成功，与之相反的证据却越来越多。
